My name is Mariza Morin, and I am a Dallas-based freelance writer, researcher, and personal librarian.
My main interests include the history of art, photography, artists’ books, and rare books BUT I am open to writing content for a variety of industries. I am a driven, naturally curious person, and at the end of the day—I take pride in sharing ideas and providing answers.
In 2011, I graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington in Art History and Photography. After spending countless hours in the art library on campus as an undergrad, I figured, why not become a librarian? From there, I trekked up north in 2012 and earned a master’s degree in Library and Information Studies with a focus in Art Librarianship from the University of Wisconsin-Madison two years later. During my time there, I worked at the Kohler Art Library on campus and completed a cataloging internship at the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art. After returning to Dallas, I did my thing at a couple of academic libraries, including the Hamon Arts Library at Southern Methodist University. In 2016, I became the Art Librarian for the Fine Arts Division (CFA) at the Dallas Public Library until 2022.
After ten years of dealing in books and over two years writing for DPL’s blog on CFA’s special collections and art books, I decided enough was enough. Writing, meticulous research, and creating meaningful content are where it’s at for me. I love nothing more than taking complex subjects and communicating the topic at hand in an engaging, approachable way for all readers. Ideas are for everyone, after all.
Oh, and I also dabble in photography. All photos (unless stated otherwise) were taken by yours truly.
Right now, I’m working for the incredibly talented lens-based artist Susan kae Grant. I research, write, and continue to use my librarian skills for her, as well as assist her in her studio.
When I’m not writing or pursuing artsy things, I spend most days hanging out with my beautiful baby boy, Marz. We love going to the library, playing outside, dancing, and making huge messes together. Motherhood has changed my life for the better. Difficult, yes, but rewarding nonetheless. I don’t know what I would do without my little love. Though I could use a nap now and again.
Additionally, I enjoy going to comedy shows with my hubby, Jose, reading, traveling (or at least dreaming of it), and watching Strongman Champions League—I don’t understand how they do what they do.
